Being good is commendable, but only when it is combined with doing good is it useful.          ~Author Unknown

On Monday February 25, we were invited to participate in the Lily Pond Restoration's re-opening celebration. Elected officials and civic leaders joined donors and the public in celebrating the completion of repairs, restoration and renovation to Balboa Park’s lily pond, highlighting the city’s ability to collaborate and unite over a common cause. Harry Thompson, Torrey Pines Landscape Company's owner is a native San Diegan and has many memories from his childhood of coming to Balboa Park. He even lives within walking distance of it today. Of course, he wanted to respond to the Friends of Balboa Park's call for help and is truly grateful that he is in a position to do just that.

Council President Todd Gloria said "The real story here is not necessarily the upgrade of the lily pond, but how San Diegans came together to pitch in for a beloved community asset that was threatened" ....."It’s a reflection of how passionate San Diegans are about their park and what can be accomplished when that passion is translated into the act of giving,” ...... “The lily pond is restored because of the collective improvement of the greater community."
