Butterflies in Zoro Garden
Saturday March 17th 
Friends of Balboa Park is pleased to again partner with the San Diego Floral Association to present "Butterflies in Zoro Garden" in Balboa Park. This year, as in the past, they will sponsor the release of hundreds of monarch butterflies into the insect friendly organic garden. 300 live butterflies are 'on order' and three releases are planned for 12pm, 1pm, and 2pm. Don't miss the fun! This event kicks off the week long San Diego Science Festival 2012.  Butterflies will be released rain or shine.                    Click here for more info






SOHO TOURS
There are a slew of tours & lectures available through SOHO (Save Our Heritage Organization):90 minute walking tours of Bankers Hill
Tours of historic 7th Ave including the Marston House
Lectures will take place at the rarely opened to the public Wednesday Club, which was designed by Hazel Wood Waterman in 1908. Presentations will include Emmor Brooke Weaver - A Designer of Artistic Bungalows in San Diego's Middle Landscape by Alex Bevil, Historian II for the State of California and published Weaver authority, Lost Sixth Avenue - From Presidential Libraries to Greene & Greene with award winning filmmaker and historian Dan Soderberg, and The Influence of the Prairie School in San Diego by research historian and 2012 Home Tour Weekend chairman, Allen Hazard.
Twilight event-The evening includes hors d'oeuvres and fine wine concluding the day of in-depth architectural activities with a unique and intimate experience at the Hebbard & Gill masterpiece, the Marston House. The party will also include private tours of this preeminent Arts & Crafts home.

  
Make Lasting Art From Your Garden 
March 29th from 9:30-12:30
Use plant material from your garden to create lasting art suitable for hanging or reproduction to card or calendar format. Instruction will include how-to collage, color theory, composition, and assistance during the work session. No prior art experience required. Most supplies provided. Students should bring pressed flat, dried flowers and leaves, scissors, watercolor paper or canvas 11” by 14” or 16” by 20” and any acrylic paints they have. The instructor will provide some dried flowers and leaves for students use and other necessary materials. Plan to come and learn something new and have FUN!

       Spring Desert Bus Tour 
            Saturday, March 31

            The San Diego Floral Association announces its spring tour to Palm Springs and Palm Desert. You will visit and tour the Living Desert Park and Reserve and also the wonderful Moorten Family Desert Park. This is an optimum time to visit the area and see the desert in bloom. 

          The tour is open to anyone interested in seeing the varied desert plants and animals. Cost is $70 / person for:
-Admission and guided tour of both botanical gardens
-Box lunch with your choice of Croissant sandwich or salad with fresh veggies
-Round trip deluxe coach transportation from San Diego to Palm Springs
-Good fellowship and morning coffee and snacks
            Departs 7:00 a.m. from Balboa Park (from the 2700 block of Park Blvd, turn onto Village Place and make a right into the first parking lot).  Return is approximately 5:00 p.m.
