Fall Native Plant Sale by CA Native PlantSociety
October 13 from 11 am – 3 pm, Casa del Prado Theater Courtyard in Balboa Park
“Why Native Plants? Attract birds, butterflies, save water and preserve San Diego’s heritage”
 

October 17 at 2:00 pm - Presentation by Greg Rubin, author and college instructor, on The California Native Landscape: The Homeowner's Design Guide to Restoring its Beauty and Balance.  The San Diego Floral Association, the county's largest and oldest garden club, proudly hosts this lecture where Mr. Rubin will share design and care tips with members and the public. (PS- SDFA also has 2 classes entitled Mosaics in the Garden this month)


The Water Conservation Garden Happenings

Garden Tours and Classes
October 13 – succulent garden tour and a Tai Chi (Qi Gong) class
October 20 –attracting birds and butterflies garden tour and a raising urban chicken class
 “Learn how easy it is to raise and care for your own chickens! Farm fresh eggs in your own backyard and learn all you need to keep your flock happy and healthy.” Pre-registration and payment are required
They also have docent led ‘general’ tours every Saturday as well.
“The Water Conservation Garden has nearly five acres of displays that showcase water conservation through a series of beautiful themed gardens, such as a native plant garden and a vegetable garden, as well as how-to displays such as mulch and irrigation exhibits. Admission is free, and the Garden can be viewed on a self-guided tour, or through one of our programs.”

Gardens for all-Seasons:Designing with Water-wise Plants and Bulbs
Saturday, October 13  from 2:00 – 3:30 pm

30th Annual Fall Plant Sale at the San Diego Botanic Garden
October 20 (members) and 21 (all )
from 10 am – 4 pm 
“Plant donations from over 100 local growers, wholesalers, retail nurseries, and individuals make this one of the most interesting and diverse plant sales of San Diego County. Plant selections include California natives, cacti, succulents, bromeliads, fruit trees, and sub-tropicals.  As an added bonus, if you spend over $100 you will receive 2 guest passes to the Garden! Visit our Botanic Attic for garden-related items. Also be sure to check out our huge selection of used books and homemade goodies such as specialty jellies.”

Regular tours: Individuals wishing to join a Docent-led tour of the gardens may do so every Saturday at 10:30 am. These tours are free with admission to the Garden or membership, and do not require a reservation. Tours depart from the Visitor Center/Gift Shop.
On the last Saturday of each month at 10:30 am, San Diego Botanic Garden gives a special tour featuring water-wise plants in the gardens.
